Grow on the go

Audiobooks

I love listening to books, sermons and lectures while I’m on the go.  Whether I’m running or walking or just driving the car somewhere, I can be learning and growing in Christ at the same time.  So here are some resources you can use to grow on the go.

First of all, I’m assuming you have one of Apple’s iDevices, be it an iPod or an iPhone or iPad or something portable that you can listen on.  Having one of those (or something similar) you can subscribe to a bunch of different RSS feeds in iTunes (or whatever you normally use to sync podcasts to your device.

There is so much good quality material out there for free.  You can subscribe to the podcast feeds from John Piper, John MacArthur, Steve Lawson, your own church (often) or your favorite preacher across the world.  Not only this but there are great regular (and irregular) podcasts like Albert Mohlers excellent Thinking in Public, or his daily 15 minute news review The Briefing or Mark Dever’s 9Marks podcast.  Then there are the conferences which sometimes offer an RSS feed you can subscribe to.  Examples include The Gospel Coalition National Conference (whose RSS looks broken), Together for the Gospel or perhaps the more vertically focused ones such as Resolved (no RSS feed unfortunately, but there is an iPhone app).

But wait, there’s more!  There is also ChristianAudio.com who, each month, offer a new free audio book each month (this month it’s J. I.  Packers Knowing God).  Along with their regular $4.99 sales, it is very easy over time to end up with quite a library of audio books (I think I have several dozen now).  If ChristianAudio.com don’t have what you want, there is always Audible.com and the apple audiobook store.  I still buy one or two books from the apple audiobook store simply because it’s easier to use than audible – I think that Apple just syndicate what’s on audible.com anyway, so the selection is just as good.

So if you have problems sitting down to read, perhaps you’ll be able to sit down and listen, or walk and listen and grow in Christ as you go.
